Staff Sergeant (SSG) Maurice C. Paez was born in Belleville, New Jersey on 2 March 1971. He graduated from Nutley High School in Nutley, New Jersey on 21 June 1989. At the age of 21 years of age, he entered the United States Army on 13 May 1992. His Basic Training and Advance Individual Training were both conducted in Fort Jackson, South Carolina where he graduated as a Food Service Specialist (94B).

SSG Paez’s stateside tours have included Fort Carson, Colorado; Fort Lee, Virginia; and Fort Hood, Texas. He has served twice overseas tours to South Korea: Camp Greaves and Camp Coiner. He has also deployed to Bosnia from February 2000 to September 2000, Operation Iraqi Freedom I from March 2003 to May 2004, Operation Iraqi Freedom III from March 2005 to February 2006, Operation Iraqi Freedom from September 2008 to August 2009, and Operation Enduring Freedom from June 2011 to May 2012.

SSG Paez held many positions in his Army career to include: Vehicle Crew Evaluator; Observer Controller/Trainer Mentor; Contracting Officer Representative; 92G AIT Platoon Sergeant/Instructor; Platoon Sergeant; Senior Food Operation Management NCO; S3 Operation Sergeant; Unit Movement Officer; Unit Armor; Battalion Master Driver; Reenlistment NCO, Biometrics NCO, Troop Electronic Warfare Officer, Government Purchase Card holder, Dining Facility Manager, Building Manager/Housing Inspector, Rear Detachment Sergeant Major and First Sergeant, and Liaison to the 3 Iraqi Army Division in Tall ‘Afar, Iraq.
