Melissa Palma

Ann Arbor, Michigan

I have been an educator since 1999, working in Detroit Public Schools, the UNiversity of Michigan and then in 2009, I followed my dream and started a democratic free school. Now, I am the Co-founder and Director of the Little Lake Learning Community, a democratic free school working with 6-14 year old students. I am also an IDEA organizer (IDEA stands for Institute for Democratic Education in America) where I am on the team helping to organize the 2013 IDEC (international Democratic Education Conference) in Boulder, Colorado from August 4-8th.

I live in an intentional cohousing community with my partner, Rodolfo, who is a union organizer, my two children, Amaru, age 8, and Paloma, age 6, and our two cats.
