Jonathan Thompson is an oboist, recitalist, and college lecturer in Dallas. He is currently working on his doctorate at the University of North Texas and serving as the oboe teaching fellow, teaching the Oboe Reed Class and private lessons. He is a former lecturer at Northwestern University, teaching the Double Reeds Class in Bienen's Music Education Department. He has performed with oboists Scott Hostetler, Michael Henoch, and Bob Morgan; clarinetist Steve Cohen, hornist Gail Williams, and bassoonists Christopher Millard and Lewis Kirk. He has performed with the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, the La Crosse Symphony Orchestra, the South Bend Symphony Orchestra, the Chicago Composers Orchestra, and the Wisconsin Philharmonic.
He performs soloistically often, programming at least one recital a year. His passion for chamber music is equally fervent, and he has collaborated with Chicago's Fonema Consort, a new music group in the city, as well as established multiple small chamber music groups in the city.
Jonathan attended Northwestern University, where he graduated in 2011 with department honors. He studied with Michael Henoch and Scott Hostetler. He stayed at Northwestern to complete his masters degree where he was awarded the School of Music Eckestein Scholarship. Graduating in 2013, he became the first recipient of the Ray Still Award.
Jonathan enjoys reading (sci-fi/fantasy is a favorite), cooking, tennis, trivia nights, and exploring the city. Another passion of his is film music and he is a part of the SideShow Sound Radio podcast (http://sideshowsoundtheatre.com/category/podcasts/).
