Mike Rayfield
I am working for Probation, currently with Surrey & Sussex Probation Trust. I started working for Probation after working for Social Services looking after children that had been abused by adults. I decided that I wanted to work with the perpretrators of that abuse to try and make a difference and Child Protection remains my overarching goal.
Having done a number of jobs in Probation I have recently taken on a new challenge of something new which is responsibility for managing the Approved Premises (AP) in Brighton & Guildford which involves accommodating some of the more difficult and sometimes dangerous offenders who are being released from Prison on Licence.
I have a dedicated team of professionals in the Approved Premises and together we work in partnership with colleagues in the Public Protection, Offender Mangement and Integrated Offender Management Teams. In addittion we work closely with colleagues in Police, Prison, Health, Housing and Voluntry Sector Partners. Me and the AP Deputy Managers contribute directly to Surrey and Sussex MAPPA.
I remain comitted to helping those who have offended to turn their lives around, giving them as much support as we can and providing opportunites to reintegrate back into the local community. I belive that everyone has the capacity to change given the right opportunity and chances. I will always balance offenders needs against my resposnibility for Public Protection, victims will always be at the forefront of what we in Probation collectively strive to achive. Control measures will be in place when needed to try and reduce and stop repeat offending.
