Growing up with a piano tuner as a father taught me that there’s no point in settling for halfway. His customers sent their piano in to be fixed, not kind of better than before. As you can imagine, this makes for a difficult time being a programmer. All languages have weaknesses and holes that prohibit certain goals from being met; but that doesn’t mean we have to settle for sub-par code, it just means we need to take a closer look at what makes an important feature for your product. This is what I feel is at the heart of every product I’ve helped deliver.
Let’s not get the idea that I’m not human though. I too have my share of weaknesses and holes that hinder me from attaining my goals. I find that the difficulty of saying "no" becomes a problem when coupled with a desire to meet professional and personal commitments. Because I take commitment very seriously, this often means that "the extra mile" has a very specific meaning for me.
Where does this interplay of values take form?
An autodidactic developer, digital polyglot, and an engineer. I consult on software process and engineering. I am determined to make a real difference for projects and companies.
An unusual introvert, I process externally and think relationally. I think that effective communication, humility, excellence, diligence and grace are critical elements of any interaction. I treat others with integrity and set boundaries that lead to relational safety. I am inspired by honesty and authenticity. I reflect often, ask for feedback constantly, and maintain accountability, both professionally and personally.
