Long version:
I was born in a small British town but grew up in Hong Kong prior to its handover to China.
I spent the first 18 years of my life in local schools. When not in class, I spent a lot of my time reading to learn English so I can move to America for college. When not reading, I'll be trying to figure out how things are made (sometimes by irretrievably breaking them...sorry ma).
Seeing the effects of severe income inequality in Hong Kong opened me to the idea of social entrepreneurship.
When the financial crisis of 2008 hit my family, I started a small business with my father to bring low-cost computer tablets to government-subsidized primary schools.
Shortly after, I had the fortune of attending Wharton, where I met with like-minded individuals who wanted to align business with social impact.
I was often skipping classes to build and sell things - from an IOT device that tracked college energy usage, a studio album, to satirical clothing for philanthropy.
Later, I spent some time at Bridgewater Associates, which profoundly changed my way of appraising how I think and act.
After that summer, Iwanted to focus more on building things that brought about lasting systematic change.
Peter Thiel's Zero to One, Ashlee Vance's Elon Musk and Donna Tartt's The Goldfinch influenced my mindset a lot.
In 2016, I came across Bitcoin and blockchain in a rare class that I did not skip out on. Bitcoin led to Ethereum, which led me further down the rabbit hole.
I took a small detour into consulting, before dedicating all my time to learning about the space. I haven't looked back since.
