Mary Stanik

Communications consultant and first-time author of the novel, Life Erupted, which involves a psychic, an Icelandic volcano, a couple of volcanologists, and a medical center spokesperson in great need of change in her life and that of her architect father's. Hope to get an agent and publisher for the book soon enough. Very soon. Like really soon. Past career in the permanent work world and in consulting has involved media relations, speechwriting/position paper/article writing, and departmental restructuring/development/management. Have worked for the University of Minnesota Academic Health Center, the Science Museum of Minnesota, as a political appointee speechwriter for former U.S. Secretary of Education Richard W. Riley at the U.S. Department of Education, Northwest Airlines, and the University of Oregon. Widely published opinion writer. I've placed things in the New York Times, Washington Post, USA Today, the Globe and Mail (Canada) and many other major U.S. and Canadian newspapers. I like to ice skate and hike. And I'd like to be able to fly fish well, some day. I love Canada and things Canadian. Massive amateur Kennedy historian. I blog fairly regularly these days for Open Salon. Always say that life should have a bit of wild child left in it. Just so long as the child does not destroy what you're trying to find.
