I have been teaching art for the past 20 years. I started my career in a Catholic school teaching grades K-8 and then moved into public education after four years. Since my teaching career began in the Norwin School District I have taught every grade from K-8, worked off of a cart, shared a classroom, and have traveled to 3 different buildings in one day. Eight years ago I moved into a newly renovated Intermediate school which houses 800+ 5th and 6th grade students. I share my art teaching responsiblities with a much younger colleague. I absolutely love my job. I feel that the arts are essential for students to receive quality education. I also believe that everyone is creative. Teaching in the 21st century has become challenging as well as rewarding in that it is ever changing. STEM education is in the forefront of education today but my dream is that STEAM becomes it's predecessor.
