Muhammed Akil

Muhammed Akil serves as executive director of the Parent Coalition for Excellent Education (PC2E) in Montclair, New Jersey. Since founding the organization in June 2015, Muhammed Akil has worked to provide parents with a stronger voice in New Jersey’s educational system. Ultimately, he seeks to provide more choices and improve schooling for all local public school students.

In recent months, Mr. Akil channeled PC2E’s efforts into the Newark school board elections. Dissatisfied with the long-standing status quo, the group successfully supported the election of a unified group of three new board members. Mr. Akil and his associates hope this turn of events will foster a more positive educational climate throughout the district.

In addition to his work in New Jersey public schools, Mr. Akil supports inner-city children through his charitable organization, More Than a Race. The nonprofit opens doors for children, giving them a glimpse of paths they can take in their own lives. Participating students tour both the local jail and the nearby university, challenging them to think about where their goals and choices will take them.
