Brendan Murphy

Amherst, Massachusetts, United States

What's going on? My name's Brendan and I'm an accounting student in the Isenberg School of Management at UMass Amherst. I am into my third year here and am loving every second of it. I am enjoying the social aspect of being a student at UMass, but more importantly I love the fact that I am apart of one of the greatest business programs in America.

As I already said, I am an accounting major and I intend on getting CPA certified shortly after I graduate. One of my current aspirations is to become an auditor upon graduation. Have I always dreamt of becoming an accountant? The simple answer is no. I always wanted to be a professional football player, but considering I am half the size and twice as slow as the rest of the guys in the NFL, I determined early that my dream job was just that: a dream. However, I love math, organization and the transfer of money, so I recently realized that accounting is the perfect career for me.

As much as I enjoy accounting, and working in general, work is not my life; it is simply a way of funding my life. In my freetime I like to ski, camp with good company, and play cards with friends and family. However, my true passion is dogs. I have been a dog owner since the day I came out of the womb. In my life so far, my family and I have owned 4 of the greatest dogs in the world. I love dogs because of their company, their loyalty, and their unique personalities. But dogs are a big commitment and a lot of work. That is the part that I love most. I love training them to be obedient and teaching them tricks. Through doing this you form one of the strongest and most unbreakable bonds, which is the dog-owner relationship. In summary, I am a very easy-going person who simply seeks to live a long and fullfilled life with the things and people I love.
