Musa Isma'il
Research Strategist, MEL Expert, and Global Public Health Specialist in Nigeria
Musa Isma’il is a Global Health & Development Specialist whose work sits at the intersection of public health, research, policy, evaluation, digital health and health systems strengthening. With a foundation as a Medical Laboratory Scientist and advanced training in Public Health and Global Health & Policy, he brings a rare blend of clinical, analytical, and programmatic expertise that informs his approach to solving complex health and development challenges.
Musa’s professional journey spans health systems, immunization, infectious diseases, MNCH, digital health, agriculture-for-development, climate resilience, and market systems, where he has contributed to multi-state and multi-country projects funded by USAID, BMGF, AGRA, CFYE, Plan International, JICA, VISA Foundation, and other global partners. His work cuts across mixed-methods research, impact evaluations, digital health adoption studies, systems thinking, human centered design, participatory research, and MEL system design.
He has led and supported rigorous field studies, qualitative and quantitative research, data-driven program evaluations, and stakeholder engagements with governments, NGOs, and community structures across Nigeria. His technical skills span DHIS2, Kobo, SurveyCTO, ODK, Excel, Stata, SPSS, R, QGIS, and NVivo, with strong capacity in dashboarding, evidence synthesis, and translating insights into actionable recommendations.
Musa’s growing reputation in global health is reflected in his recognitions—most notably, he is a 2025 RSTMH Early Career Research Grant awardee, leading systems-thinking research on improving immunization performance in Northern Nigeria. He is also a Fellow of International Development Research, Humanitarian Leadership Fellow, PMGH certified (University of Washington), an alumnus of the Global Liver Institute Advanced Advocacy Academy, Health Policy Ambassador with GLI, IA2030 Immunization Ambassador, Health Equity Fellow with SHRIN and trained in Health Literacy Leadership by West African Institute of Public Health.
He is a member of key professional bodies, including the Boston Congress of Public Health, LEAP Africa MERL CoP, American Society for Microbiology, Nigerian Infectious Diseases Society, and actively engages in advancing evidence-based policy and strengthening frontline health systems. His academic journey began with a Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science (Virology & Immunology) from Bayero University Kano, followed by dual Master of Science in Public Health and Global Health & Policy.
Driven by a deep belief in health equity, universal health coverage, and the transformative power of data, Musa advocates for solutions that place communities at the center of design and delivery. He is passionate about leveraging digital innovation, participatory approaches, and resilient systems to expand access to quality healthcare—especially for underserved populations across Africa.
