Muvril & The Ravignes
Muvril & The Ravignes started out simply as Muv and in later years the name Muvril & The Ravignes was adopted.
Despite what the name suggests, Muvril & The Ravignes consists of only 1 person - Muv, although he lists fictional characters as being band members; Mr Plitterwud = Vocals, Muv = Guitars, Muverick = Keyboards, Peter The Pervert = Percussion and Muvril = Spoken Word.
Muvril & The Ravignes have a catalogue of 7 double sided albums: The First Realm, I Learn It With The Wise Old Man, My Uncontrollable Vomit, No Longer Here, Tender Age In Bloom, The Year Of The Broken Guitar, Welcome To The Flatulence and there is also an album of cover songs: The Cover-Up Album
The first 6 albums were recorded on a tape recorder with no effects and no editting so while listening to songs from these albums it comes as no surprise that you can hear the television in the background, phones ringing and even a toilet break halfway through a song. After the first 6 albums, there was a break of 10 years before Muv returned to his music and transfered the albums from the original cassettes into mp3 format.
During 2010, Muvril & The Ravignes started working on a new album “Welcome To The Flatulence” which consists of two parts : “The Wind Beneath My Wings” and “The Highs And The Blows”. The lyrics for one track on the new album ("The Black Mass Prayer") were written by members of the Muvril & The Ravignes facebook page. This album welcomes in a new sound for Muvril & The Ravignes, there is less use of guitar than previously and more instrumental songs. The most notable difference between the old and new albums is the lack of filler tracks - no more listening to talking about "The Pringle Eating Contest" or "Double Glazing".
Prior to the release of "Welcome To The Flatulence" an impromptu album of covers was released which was entitled "The Cover-Up Album" and was made available as a free download. This album included old and new covers by Muvril & The Ravignes of songs such as Nobody Does It Better, Fire and The Number Of The Beast as well as songs by the likes of Rolf Harris and The Buzzcocks.
"Welcome To The Flatulence" finally became available as a free download in 2011 through the Muvril & The Ravignes official facebook page.
