Charles Mwangi

Charles Mwangi is the Deputy Country Coordinator for the GLOBE Program in Kenya and a member of the GLOBE Program Technology Working Group representing the Africa region. Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment (GLOBE) Program supports students, teachers, and scientists in research collaborations using inquiry-based investigations of the environment and the earth system.
GLOBE program is jointly sponsored by U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the National Science Foundation (NSF), with support from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and Department of State. Internationally, GLOBE is implemented through Government-to-Government agreements with each Country Partner responsible for in-country activities.
Mr. Mwangi is actively involved in promoting practical and hands-on based learning in GeoSTEM subjects and is collaborating with organizations such as UNEP, TAHMO, NASA amongst others to promote collection and utilization of local environmental data for learning and research as well as participation in satellite mission campaigns.
Mr. Mwangi holds a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Control Engineering) from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology and Bachelor’s degree in Technology Education (Electrical & Electronics Engineering) from Moi University. He has recently also attended a course in GIS and remote sensing in ITC, University of Twente in Netherlands amongst other trainings. He has over 12 years experience in electrical engineering training and support. He is also a Principal Lecturer in the Defence Forces Technical College and is also working at the Kenya National Space Secretariat (soon transforming into a Space Agency).
