My name is Myava Mitchell. I am a senior at North Carolina Central University majoring in Mass Communications with a concentration in journalism.
The ability to gain valuable, hands-on experience in an environment that provides continuous, exciting, television series and documentaries are the things of which my dreams are made. After all, I don’t dream in black and white, but rather in color, audio, video and digital. So the real question is, “why should you hire me?”
My experience in journalism began in high school, where I served as senior staff reporter for the RoadRunner Review, and my skills have been honed as a 3-year staff writer for my school newspaper, the CampusEcho, to include reporting for UNC Chapel Hill's Carolina Week. This past summer, I completed a very successful internship as a staff writer with the Capital Gazette in Annapolis, MD, conducting field reports, writing news stories, interviewing, taking photos, and assisting in the editing and production of news stories in general. As a result of years of practical experience, in combination with my coursework, I have developed strong interpersonal, verbal/written communication, leadership and organizational skills. My attention to detail, adherence to deadlines, and enthusiasm for the industry are a few of my greatest assets. I understand that most of my experience is within the news field and that I have a lot to learn in this business, but I am willing to do the work because I am a hard worker and love a challenge. I would like to take my experience to another level.
