Myra Poon MBBS PhD FRACP DCH
Paediatric Endocrinologist in Sydney, Australia
I commenced paediatric training in 1998 at the Children’s Hospital at Westmead, moving to the United Kingdom in February 2003 for further experience. I was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (Paediatrics and Child Health Division) in December 2005 for general paediatrics. I pursued post-fellowship subspecialty training in paediatric endocrinology at Great Ormond Street Hospital, London and The Children’s Hospital at Westmead and achieved subspecialty recognition in April 2009.
I currently work as a Part-Time Staff Specialist in the Institute of Endocrinology and Diabetes at The Children's Hospital at Westmead. I also consult as a private paediatric endocrinologist at Westmead and Neutral Bay.
Working as a consultant in a tertiary centre in Sydney and a busy district general hospital in the United Kingdom has provided experience in two unique healthcare systems. My subspecialty training is complemented by a strong experience base in a broad range of paediatrics, ranging from community through acute paediatrics to paediatric and neonatal critical care and retrieval.
To complement my clinical experience, I have participated in multidisciplinary teaching, student examinations and non-clinical management. I have recently been awarded a PhD at The University of Sydney characterising the clinical heterogeneity of Type 1 diabetes. I have been awarded $145,000 in research grants in addition to a National Health and Medical Research Council Postgraduate Medical Research scholarship.
