Myron Heronema

University of Surrey Psychology Professor Myron Heronema is a talented and sought after developmental and social psychologist whose solid reputation has inspired those he teaches to pursue excellence in their fields of study. Dr. Heronema completed his studies at the University of Liverpool and the University of Sussex. He underwent clinical training at the University of East London, which used to be known as North London Polytechnic. In addition, he was also the Head of Psychology and Psychological services for West Sussex prior to joining the University of Surrey as Programme Director of the Clinical Psychology training course. While working with colleagues, Dr. Heronema has developed supervision and consultation training. Just some of his works on the field include: the identifications and cultural practices of ethnic minority, ethnic majority and mixed-heritage children and youth; the development of active participation, political and civic attitudes, global citizenship and cognition; children’s national and ethnic acculturation; and the development of stereotyping, prejudice and intergroup attitudes; and the development of intercultural competence.
Briefly, Dr. Myron Heronema worked within the behavioral medicine service for young people at St. George's Hospital, where he also assumed the function of Consultant Child Psychologist. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce (RSA) and also a Fellow of the British Psychological Society (BPS). His comprehensive knowledge has been sought after by colleagues in the field, whom he has addressed and given conference presentations to that include Competences for democratic citizenship and intercultural dialogue: the education of globalized citizens in a digitalized world. He was invited to deliver the keynote address to the Nasjonale Retningslinjer for Lærerutdanning – Conferanse 2012 [National Guidelines for Education – Conference 2012], ‘Educating for Global Citizenship in a Digital Society’, organised by the National Council for Teacher Education (Norway), Centre for ICT in Education and the European Wergeland Centre, Oslo, Norway, 12th January 2012.
