Mt Vernon Regional Arts Council
The Mt Vernon Regional Arts Council is a community organization that wishes to broaden the area's knowledge and participation in the arts throughout Mt Vernon and the surrounding community. In just five years, the volunteers of the Mount Vernon Regional Arts Council have developed their town in rural southwest Missouri into an arts hub that enriches the lives of 271,000 people in six counties. Their projects include the annual Not So Square Arts and Literary Festival, Tango Festival, Home Grown Books, Movies in the Park, Music in the Park, adult and children’s community theater, and the purchase and renovation in 2011 of the Mount Vernon Arts and Recreational Center—The MARC—as an arts and sports facility with a theater, gym, classrooms, and art gallery.

Home Grown Books
Home Grown Books is a unique bookstore created by three authors: Schyrlet Cameron, Carolyn Craig, and Kathy Brown. Home Grown Books is dedicated to showcasing self-published authors and recording artists. They offer readers a rare opportunity to discover new talent and to read books not found in traditional bookstores. They also provide a venue for authors to get their self-published books into the hands of the public. All the authors and artists are from or have connections to the Ozarks and represent a wide variety of genres.
