Mzi Khumalo is a successful South African businessman, mining entrepreneur, and investor.
His companies work across Africa. Gold and General, Mzi’s investment company, holds interests in mining, infrastructure and telecommunications in Zimbabwe, Tanzania and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
After serving 12 years on Robben Island alongside figures such as Nelson Mandela for his anti-apartheid stance, Mzi has built a corporate empire and has served on several company boards. His approach to business is optimistic.
Mzi believes that economic freedom is vital for Africa and that it is the last frontier for the continent’s emancipation from its complex and troubled past. Creating opportunities for financial strength at the individual, corporate and country level is a concern which he champions through his work across the continent.
He aims to achieve this through sustainable partnerships with government and the private sector in the countries where he does business.
Mzi has held the position of Chairman at various companies including JCI Limited, Capital Alliance Holdings Limited and Point Waterfront Corporation. He is the former Non-Executive Director of Mintek, Telkom SA, McCarthy Retail Limited, Ridge Mining and Anglo-American Corporation and he is a Trustee of the World Wildlife Fund.
Mzi holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of South Africa.
