“I cannot pursue artistic excellence without integrating all my selves."

Nafissatou Batu Daramy is a interdisciplinary and intersectional performance artist who has been battling cultural dysphoria on multiple fronts since childhood. In the last year, she has begun to find her place in the world by walking away from traditional opera and investing herself in projects that defy conformity and avoidance. Thereby, integrating multiple layers of her personal experience.

Born of African, Asian and Levantine descent, Nafissatou spent her upbringing in various parts of the globe. In her creative practice, she seeks to create experiences of meaning and social value through myriad forms of artistic expression.

Her recent endeavours have sparked numerous conversations with creatives of different backgrounds, resulting in the launch of Home-land; a live performance of music and spoken word, held in conjuction with the Blyth Arts Fellowship solo exhibition Take-away by Lisha Zhong.

Previously, she joined the cast of Jataneel Banerjee's opera Gaṅgā, thus embarking on an exploration of South Indian culture and history. Finding significant resonance from her own life and heritage, she subsequently offered her services as a vocal and linguistic consultant towards the opera's development.
