Nahír Alejandra Opio

Hello! My name is Nahír Alejandra Opio Rodríguez. I was born in Humacao. As a child, my parents took me to live in Miami for 4 years. When we returned to Puerto Rico, we lived in Naguabo, where I still live now. Humacao has been like a second home, for I went to school in Humacao and I’m still studying there. At present I study Biology at the University of Puerto Rico, Humacao Campus.

I have been blessed all life. While in Miami, I experienced the Montessori educational methods and I still remember my teachers with gratitude. In fact, my first grade teacher taught me how to use an agenda and I have used on ever since. Al though I am short in years, I have a number of joyful experiences that have molded my life, like several visits to museums, zoos, many cities, Disney World, and several others. I still remember that while in prekindergarten I had to be up at 5:00 a.m. because my grandfather took my mother and I to work. All my grown ups were always a very helpful influence in my life. More than involved in my education, they were consistently active in my formation and personal development. I have a background in visual arts, so I have had to work with clay. Therefore, I cannot help but to think of myself as portion of clay where God has been working through the hands of my grownups, especially my mother and grandmother, to come up with a vessel kindle with his heart. Some of the traits and virtues of this vessel are a very focused and disciplined person, always willing to work hard, very mindful of the calendar. My grandfather tells me that when I was in second grade I would say, " I am an interesting person because I have a lot of conversations topics", and that is because I used to read a lot, and I still do. Somewhere in this journey, I received an even bigger blessing which is that I became aware that I have to be the captain of my own ship. I have created for myself a life plan, life objective, and an action plan. One of my main life objectives is to become a medical doctor. For that, I have developed an action plan which includes subsidiary objectives like gaining entrance to the Natural Sciences Faculty in the university, dedicating myself to study, obtaining an excellent performance in the MCAT, acquiring entrance to a medical school, and achieving all the requirements to graduate and finally become a doctor.
