Nahm Kim
Student in Athens, Georgia
It was in 9th grade language arts when I learned about the concept of “Blood is thicker than water.” This concept explains that the family bonds are the strongest and most loyal relationships. This concept has stayed true with me especially since the date of August 12, 2000: the day my best friend and brother was born. It all started with the names that my parents bestowed upon us. My name is Nahm Kuhn Kim and his Nahm Joon Kim. Obviously, in the american community the same first name created some confusion and our physical attributes being almost the same did not help either ( we both are five feet and eight inches tall and look identical.) Even with this obstacle our childhood was awesome because we had friends but mostly each other. I remember one night when I was a young kid and pulled that stunt on my parents where I “pretended” to run away cause I was mad at them. Just five minutes after I left the house my brother would wander outside searching and calling for me offering snacks and drinks to last the night. I returned the favor with knuckle sandwiches. We also did everything together. We would throw ball in the street, play basketball at lifetime, and power through homework sessions together. Through all of this our relationship grew stronger and impenetrable and so the ultimate truth is that college is going to hard without the little guy by my side. Blood will always be thicker than water.
