From the moment her parents decided to name her for renowned Jazz artist John Coltrane’s classic composition, music has always been tightly woven into Naima Cochrane's life. She earned her music entertainment stripes first as an intern at Bad Boy Entertainment, and has moved and grown over the course her career in the marketing departments of Arista Records, Columbia Records, and Epic Records...with a few detours and tangents at some points. Through a now 20-year career, Naima has worked on and/or spearheaded the marketing for projects and artists including Outkast, Usher, P!nk, Maxwell, Beyonce, Odd Future, Jidenna, and John Legend. The latter relationship ultimately prompted her to move to the management side of the business and join Friends at Work, where she handled Legend’s Day-to-Day and applied her marketing and label insight across all platforms of the company for the last two years.

In 2018, Naima launched cltr., a multi-functional agency that works with brands, organizations, and public-facing figures to shape their stories in authentic ways and develop strategic solutions through brand identity, integrated marketing, multi-platform campaigns, and more.

In her spare time, Naima mentors teenage girls; voraciously consumes all things pop culture & politics; eats unhealthy amounts of candy; sings loudly; dances anywhere; and curates #MusicSermon: a weekly twitter video series highlighting the under-appreciated and often overlooked artists, songs, and sub-genres of R&B music.
