A Lebanese native, Najib’s long standing and thriving political career had its genesis in 1998, and he has served in a variety of positions since that time. He was initially the Minister of Public Works and Transport in Lebanon, after which he served as Prime Minister on two separate occasions. The first took place in 2005, and after a period spent in Parliament, Mr. Mikati became the Prime Minister once again in 2011. During his leadership, Najib successfully transitioned the country toward holding notable democratic elections.

Within the business arena, Najib is well-known for co-founding several companies with his family, including the investment holding company M1 Group and long distance calling company, Investcom, which later combined with South Africa’s MTN Group.

Najib is a strong advocate for centrism and has provided wisdom and leadership in this area in partnership with a variety of organisations. Najib founded the Middle East Prospects Forum as well as the Al Wassantia Forum, both of which promote centrism throughout the Middle East.

In addition to his political and business careers, Najib is also active in a plethora of philanthropic endeavours. Together with his brother, Taha, Najib co-founded the Mikati Foundation, which works to provide a better quality of life to those living in developing countries. Furthermore, he serves as President of Azm Saade Association, an organisation that provides various social services to promote and strengthen a sense of community and civic identity in locations throughout Lebanon.

Najib Mikati holds both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in business administration from the American University of Beirut, Lebanon. He also previously studied at Harvard Kennedy School and participated in the AVIRA advance management program at INSEAD in France.

Together with his wife of thirty-five years, Najib has three children and seven grandchildren. In addition to spending time with his family, he enjoys a range of hobbies, including sailing, reading, art collection, and cycling.
