Namira Samir is a development economist who uses interdisciplinary approaches to understand poverty and inequalities. She currently works at UNICEF Indonesia as Social Policy Officer.

Namira earned her PhD in Development Policy & Management from the University of Manchester. Namira has 6+ years of experience working in international development and policy sectors, with key expertise developed on financial inclusion, gender, informal economy, and poverty. She is capable of using an interdisciplinary approach and mixed methods to understand poverty and inequalities.

Namira is passionate to communicate knowledge accessibly to a wider audience with proven track record of publications in leading platforms.

Namira’s opinion articles have been featured in a number of popular press such as The Jakarta Post, New Straits Times, Asia Times, Islamic Finance News and The World Financial Review. amd CeSPI (Centro Studi di Politica Internazionale).

Namira’s previous work experiences including working at the National Team for the Acceleration of Poverty Reduction (TNP2K), Office of Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia. She was then assigned to conduct an assessment of the impact of Pro-Poor Budgeting on Poverty Reduction Progress in 5(five) provinces and 10(ten) regencies in Indonesia. The results were documented in a book of compilation of success stories named “Membumikan Keberpihakan - Inisiatif Daerah Menyiasati Kemiskinan” (http://www.tnp2k.go.id/downloads/grounding-local-initiatives-for-poverty-reduction-efforts)

Prior to TNP2K, Namira worked as a Consultant for UNDP on several local economic development and Islamic finance projects in Indonesia and Istanbul and on a report on blending Islamic finance with alternative finance instruments. She has also worked as a Research Fellow at the Central Bank of Indonesia and has contributed to research papers/reports/working papers for UNDP Bangkok Regional Hub, German Aerospace Centre, International Youth Federation.
