Nancy B. Austin, Psy.D
Nancy B. Austin, Psy.D, an adult and child psychologist, maintains a private practice in New York, specializing in parenting children and adolescents diagnosed with anxiety and bipolar disorder and their families, as well as with adults and couples.
Dr. Austin graduated from the Child and Adolescent program of Ferkouf Graduate School of Psychology, Yeshiva University, in 1988, a post-graduate program in psychoanalysis at the Westchester Center for Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy (WCSPP), as well as the couples program at WCSPP.
After 6 years at the Center for Preventive Psychoatry in White Plains and 2 years as Special Education Psychologist in a middle school, along with a private practice in Mamaroneck, NY, she became associate director of the Lucio Bini Mood Disorders Center in Manhattan, which specializes in research, consultation, diagnosis, and treatment of mood and anxiety disorders in children, adolescents, adults, and their families.
Her other teaching and supervisory positions have included New York Presbyterian Hospital Psychology Internship Program, Manhattanville College, the Child and Adolescent Program of WCSPP, Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology, and The Center for Preventive Psychiatry, as well as a moderator for the therapists' listserv for the Juvenile Bipolar Research Foundation (JBRF).
Dr. Austin's reaearch on the IQ patterns of bipolar children has been presented at conferences and her clinical work with children with Bipolar Disorder has been cited in several books.
In addition, Dr. Austin is co-author with Gianni Faedda, MD, of Parenting a Bipolar Child: What to Do and Why (New Harbinger Press, 2006).
