I've recently left New York City and decamped to Alton, IL, a historic rivertown across from St. Louis. The city where Lovejoy, the abolistionist-journalist, was murdered by a mob is 175 years old this year. I spent 21 of those years growing up here.
My first job was as a summer intern at the Alton Telegraph. These days I do a little of everything -- producing self-guided tours for TripAdvisor, blogging for websites like GE's Healthymagination and writing for print outlets like The International Herald Tribune and Aramco World Magazine. Much of my reporting in real estate, health and lifestyle can be viewed on The New York Times website.
I've also been a prof at Missouri, Columbia, the American University of Paris, the American University in Cairo and Zayed Universty in Abu Dhabi where I blogged about Dr. J's Wonderful Web World to introduce students to international news and media law and ethics. Academic Degrees: Missouri (B.A., English), Columbia (M.S., Journalism), Miami (Ph.D., International Studies). Memberships: Phi Beta Kappa, American Society of Journalists and Authors and Journalism and Women Symposium (JAWS).
