Nancy Kois

Nancy Kois is currently the Chief of Laboratory Medicine at Boise VAMC -Affiliate Faculty Idaho State University -Neuropathology Consultant, Contemporary Pathology Services. Prior to this, Nancy Kois was an Attending Pathologist and Neuropathologist at St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise, Idaho, where she supported the hospital’s laboratory in providing testing, reporting, and advisory services for clinicians and oncologoists. Dr. Nancy Kois played a role in introducing cytogenetic and molecular tests into the laboratory to further assist St. Alphonsus’s Cancer Care Center.

Dr. Kois completed her undergraduate training at the University of California San Diego (UCSD)with a B.A. in Cell Biology and Biochemistry. While pursuing her degree, she also gained valuable experience as a research assistant at the UCSD School of Medicine, a laboratory assistant at Salk Institute, and a medical technologist at Tri-City Medical Center.

She went on to pursue her medical degree at the Medical College of Pennsylvania, where she was awarded four-year National Merit Scholarship. Her internship was in General Surgery at New York’s Albany Medical Center. Transitioning into the field of pathology, Dr. Kois garnered a residency with the University of California San Diego Medical Center and became certified in anatomic pathology, clinical pathology, and neuropathology.

Dr. Nancy Kois joined the Medical Staff at St.Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in 2001 and has served as department Vice Chair since 2006. She is actively involved with staff of St. Alphonsus, serving on several committees and constantly seeking to improve the laboratory’s services. For her exceptional work and valuable contributions to the organization, Dr. Kois received the St. Alphonsus Physician Partnership Award in 2011.
