Nancy Nowell

Nancy Nowell grew up with a cousin with profound Intellectual Disabilities. As a result she has worked in many areas of the disabilities field for the past 35 years. Nancy has worked with children, adolescents and adults on the autism spectrum and people who have an intellectual disability. When working with self-advocates she learned about the high incidence of sexual assault experienced by people with disabilities. She became committed to sexual abuse risk reduction, eventually getting her master’s in sexuality education. In 2007 she won the emerging professional award from the Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality. As she taught adolescents and adults in the Philadelphia area, she couldn’t find materials that teach healthy and safe romantic relationship skills. Together, Nancy Nowell and her filmmaker son, Kyle Cramer, founded Social Signals to fill this need. They are committed to creating the highest quality DVDs and teaching materials.
