Nancy Shia
Artist, Public Speaker, and Writer in Washington, DC
My passion for photography began in New Haven in 1965, with a Polaroid Swinger and people on a park bench.
After two years in New Haven, I spent five years in New York City, getting educated and practiced. Drawn by politics and activism, I came to DC in 1972.
I do freelance photography and photographic art. I have a studio in Adams Morgan.
I have a vast collection of archived images of some historic significance. For instance, Bella Abzug marching with the radical feminists in NYC; and anti-war demonstrations for over 4 decades. I also have many images of development, displacement and homelessness in DC, especially in Adams Morgan.
Photography is a powerful tool for conscious development. My purpose has been to use it to educate as well as make people happy to see themselves in a good light.
