Why am I an editor?
Ever since I learned to read at age six, books have been my first love. I tore through fairy tales, Nancy Drew mysteries, L.M. Montgomery's "Anne" books, and one of my all-time favourites, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith.
Along the way I learned to appreciate challenging literature and the incredible flexibility and quirkiness of the English language. I'm an omnivorous reader; I gobble up all types of fiction, but also satisfy my scientific curiosity with books about psychology, medicine, travel, and writing. Tutoring ESL students sharpened my enjoyment of reading poetry and short stories. When I was living in Brussels for a short time during the 1980s, forcing myself to read only in French gave me, paradoxically, increased insight into English grammar and the way language affects how we express ourselves.
I love editing because for me, it's a privilege to read others' work. I enjoy helping writers polish their voices and express their ideas clearly to readers. I'm a "detail" person with a natural flair for noticing mistakes or inconsistencies in grammar, punctuation, and style.
All words are important; all words convey a message. Whether you are writing a brochure or a book, I would be happy to help you get your message right. Please visit my editing website at nancytinariedits.com .
I'm a writer as well as an editor. You can read about my experiences as an elite runner and my journey to the 1988 Olympics in my running blog at www.nancytinarirunswrites.wordpress.com .
