More than 25 years ago, I started a journey that would take me, figuratively, to far-off places I'd only heard about as a child in stories from family members. My goal has been to uncover as many facts as possible about the experience of my great grandparents and their five daughters (including my grandmother) as they emigrated from Russia in the early 20th century and the largely untold story of what happened to those families that were separated during World War I.
