The recipient of a bachelor's in psychology from Columbia University, Naomi Tetherly began her career in 2002 as an intake specialist for Cigna Health Insurance Company. Later that year, she served as a disability claims examiner for Hartford Life Insurance Company, for which she investigated claim documents and medical records to assess the validity of insurance claims. In her three years with the company, Naomi Tetherly also provided customer support services such as editing letters to claimants, providers, and employers.

Naomi Tetherly later transitioned toward a career in education, which began with her work as a substitute teacher within Springfield Public Schools. She later served as a second and third grade language arts and social studies teacher at Robert M. Hughes Academy Charter Public School, before becoming its special education director and academic enhancement coordinator. She completed a master's in school administration at American International College in 2013.

Outside of her professional endeavors, Naomi Tetherly is an avid runner and member of Holyoke, Massachusetts' Empire One Running Club. She has participated in numerous half marathons as well as indoor and outdoor track races. She also enjoys traveling and is presently studying to become fluent in Japanese, German, and Russian.
