Napoleon Gomez's struggle for union democracy and for the respect and dignity of workers is well known worldwide. He has been consecutively elected as the President and General Secretary of the National Union of Mine, Metal, Steel and Allied Workers of the Mexican Republic since his unanimous election in 2002 and unanimous reelection to a new six-year term in 2008. He was reelected as President of the union in 2012.

Napoleon Gomez is also member of the executive committee of IndustriALL Global Union, the most powerful union organization with more than 50 million members worldwide. He works closely with leaders of unions around the world, including the United Steelworkers Union of North America.

As an accomplished writer and scholar, Napoleon Gomez made it to the New York TImes Best Seller list for his book, Collapse of Dignity: The Story of a Mining Tragedy and the Fight Against Greed and Corruption in Mexico (2013). He is also a contributor to La Jornada, Mexico City's leading and independent daily news paper.
