I am a sophomore at American University from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I am double majoring in CLEG (Communications, Law, Economics, and Government) and Print Journalism. After graduation, I would like to either work on a political campaign or be a political journalism. While at school, I spend a great deal of time dedicated to Students Helping Honduras American University. My school’s chapter is a part of a national organization, Students Helping Honduras, that focuses on ending extreme poverty by empowering Honduran youth through education. The organization strives to reach this goal through fundraising and service trips. I was able to go on two service trips with the organization, and I was able to see a country that is filled with natural beauty. While I was down there, my perspective on life was altered. I saw extreme poverty and lack of opportunity to a degree that I have never saw. Beyond the dire circumstances, I saw a community that knew the true meaning of happiness. The people I have met in Honduras have filled me with inspiration and hope every day.
