Joe Dughman

Originally from Knoxville, and after graduating from the University of Tennessee, Joe moved to Nashville and entered the Nashville School of Law while he was employed by the State of Tennessee. Upon graduation in 1974, Joe accepted a position as an attorney with the Department of Public Health, where he focused on enforcing disciplinary action against doctors, nurses, and other health care practitioners, including Elvis Presley’s doctor. Joe also helped enforce the state’s environmental laws, bringing polluters, coal mining companies, and other errant businesses to justice before the appropriate regulatory boards.
Joe has consistently been involved in the community, working on various non-profit boards, including the Exchange Club Child Abuse Center, where he served as Board President for 2 years. Joe has also served as Board President of Residential Services, an agency that places disadvantaged children in foster homes. Other memberships include the Junior Chamber of Commerce, where he received the “Member of the Year” award; board member of the Downtown Exchange Club; a volunteer for Buddies of Nashville, Oasis Center, Gilda’s Club, and various other community interests. Joe is also a CASA volunteer who advocates for juveniles who have been taken from their homes because of abuse and neglect.
