Natalia Shumeiko
Assistant Professor of English in Bratislava
Natalia completed a third-cycle higher education programme in Educational Sciences and successfully defended her doctoral dissertation in 2017. She also holds a full higher education degree in Teaching English Language and Literature (1994).
She has been working at universities since 2009. She has taught English for Specific Purposes (ESP) to students of non-linguistic programmes and linguistic disciplines to students of linguistics and translation, including Practical English, Oral and Simultaneous Interpreting, Theory and Practice of Translation, and English Phonetics. She has also supervised Bachelor’s theses in Linguistics.
Her university teaching career started at Kyiv National Linguistic University (2009–2017), followed by the State University of Trade and Economics (2018–2022) and Bratislava University of Economics and Business (until 2026).
Natalia started her teaching career in 1994 as an English teacher at a secondary school and in English courses for adults. Her total teaching experience in English is therefore more than 24 years.
Her research interests include applied linguistics, language technologies, artificial intelligence (AI), machine translation (e.g. DeepL and Google Translate), English language teaching methodology, the communicative approach, CLIL, assessment of language competences according to the CEFR, and second language acquisition (SLA).
She has participated in international seminars and conferences, including “Reimagining Higher Education Journeys: Decolonising Conference” (London, United Kingdom), “Workshop on Multilingualism” (Germany), “Digital Transformation of Education” (Ukraine), “Artificial Intelligence in Science and Education” (Ukraine), and “Teacher Digital Competency: Strategies and Practices for Teaching with AI” (Ukraine), “Generace Z, marketing a média: Adaptace na novou realitu” (Czech Republic), “DIDMATTECH” (Slovakia).
She participated in organising the IV All-Ukrainian Student Scientific and Practical Conference in Foreign Languages, “The Science of the XXI Century: Challenges of the Contemporaneity”, and served on the editorial board of its proceedings (2021).
Životopis
Natália úspešne absolvovala vysokoškolské vzdelanie tretieho stupňa v odbore pedagogické vedy a v roku 2017 úspešne obhájila dizertačnú prácu. V roku 1994 získala vysokoškolské vzdelanie druhého stupňa v odbore učiteľstvo anglického jazyka a literatúry a ruského jazyka a literatúry.
Od roku 2009 pôsobí v oblasti vysokoškolského vzdelávania. Vyučovala angličtinu pre študentov nefilologických odborov, angličtinu pre špecifické účely (ESP) a lingvistické disciplíny pre študentov lingvistiky a prekladateľstva vrátane predmetov Praktický kurz anglického jazyka, Ústne a simultánne tlmočenie, Teória a prax prekladu a Fonetika anglického jazyka. Bola tiež školiteľkou bakalárskych prác študentov lingvistiky.
Svoju kariéru vo vysokoškolskom vzdelávaní začala na Kyjevskej národnej lingvistickej univerzite (2009 – 2017). Následne pôsobila na Štátnej univerzite obchodu a ekonomiky (2018 – 2022) a na Ekonomickej univerzite v Bratislave (do roku 2026).
Svoju pedagogickú kariéru začala v roku 1994 ako učiteľka angličtiny na strednej škole a ako lektorka angličtiny v kurzoch pre dospelých. Jej celková pedagogická prax vo vyučovaní angličtiny je preto viac ako 24 rokov.
Medzi jej odborné a výskumné záujmy patria aplikovaná lingvistika, jazykové technológie, umelá inteligencia (AI), strojový preklad (napr. DeepL a Google Translate), metodika vyučovania angličtiny, komunikatívny prístup, CLIL, hodnotenie jazykových kompetencií podľa CEFR a osvojovanie si druhého jazyka (SLA).
Zúčastnila sa medzinárodných seminárov a konferencií vrátane „Reimagining Higher Education Journeys: Decolonising Conference“ (Londýn, Spojené kráľovstvo), „Workshop on Multilingualism“ (Nemecko), „Digital Transformation of Education“ (Ukrajina), „Artificial Intelligence in Science and Education“ (Ukrajina), „Teacher Digital Competency: Strategies and Practices for Teaching with AI“ (Ukrajina), „Generace Z, marketing a média: Adaptace na novou realitu“ (Česká republika) a „DIDMATTECH“ (Slovensko).
Podieľala sa na organizácii IV. celoštátnej ukrajinskej študentskej vedeckej a praktickej konferencie v cudzích jazykoch „The Science of the XXI Century: Challenges of the Contemporaneity“ a v roku 2021 bola členkou redakčnej rady zborníka z tejto konferencie.
