Once upon a time, a shy little girl unwrapped a portable tape recorder for her 7th birthday. That machine went everywhere with her and she talked to it like it was her best friend. Sometimes she shared the Top 40 chart show with it, but mostly she just told it stories. Years later when she was all grown up, she treated herself to a grown up recorder and a very posh microphone, and now she tells other people's stories for a living (and she still plays the Top 40 in between client sessions).
