A great thing about getting older is the confidence that comes with it. However, as our body and skin changes as we get older, that can mean we may need to spend a little time boosting our body image to make sure that this matches our confident mindset.
Whilst we may feel socially and emotionally more confident, our body confidence can take a hit, so it’s time to accept and celebrate these changes. To help you feel happy, no matter what age you are, here are 5 tips on how to be more body confident as you get older.
Stop Comparing
In our society where everything is image-driven, it can be hard not to compare yourself to others. As we get older, we are often subjected to unrealistic images of what we “should” look like. When body anxieties come into your head, focus on a part of your body that you like and acknowledge that this is a positive. Think to yourself, would you say that comment to a friend? If not, you shouldn’t say it to yourself.
Reward Your Body
How often have you rewarded yourself with a massage or spa treatment and thought that you should do it more often? Whilst you might not have time for daily spa treatments, it is easy to build in daily pampering that will allow you to spoil and treat your body, take care of your skin and make you feel more confident. Our skin gets drier as we get older, so nourishment and care is essential. In the shower or bath, exfoliate gently to remove dead skin cells and rinse well. Then, pat dry gently with a towel and apply a rich moisturiser on slightly damp skin.
Perfection Is Dull
Remember, nobody is perfect. It is rare that the models you see in magazines or on social media look like that in real life. Being happy and confident with your body doesn’t mean that everything is perfect, it means you have decided to embrace your imperfections. Every day, practice looking at yourself in the mirror and being grateful of the body you have. It is a very powerful exercise and sends all of the right messages to your brain.
