Natalie Gilbert
Educator
Greetings, my name is Natalie (she/her) and I am originally from Ontario. I love travelling, hiking, reading, cooking, and photography. I have Bachelor's degrees in journalism and education, and a Master of Arts in Educational Technology.
For the past decade, I’ve been fortunate to work in diverse educational spaces around the globe, including teaching English as a Second Language in South Korea, facilitating experiential education programs in northern India, teaching at an international school in Haiti, and developing digital resources with Indigenous communities in remote areas of Canada.
I am currently the Head of the English Department at an American international school in West Africa. I run a Grade 9 combined English and social studies project-based learning classroom and am also the IB CAS and Service Learning Coordinator for the school. My teaching practice is informed by social justice education practices and student-centered, inquiry-based learning.
My main reason for taking this course is to better serve my students. My school’s student body represents over 40+ nationalities and most of my students speak 2-3 or more languages. Therefore, most are coming into my mainstream classroom as English as Additional Language learners. I would like to develop a better understanding of learning strategies and build a toolkit to support the development of their written and verbal communication skills.
I look forward to collaborating with everyone.
