NATALYN IN A FEW WORDS:
Natalyn, a lifelong resident of Atlanta, was raised in District 5 and was an active participant in the remarkable growth that has, and is, taking place in the district. Prior to offering herself to serve, Natalyn spent a great deal of time working in a variety of capacities (please see her professional experience section for further details) to make our communities better. Since being elected, Natalyn has worked tirelessly for District 5, which has resulted in her being nicknamed "Battling Natalyn" by her City Council colleagues. While Natalyn has a remarkable track record, she is not afraid to admit that there is still much work to be done in the district. As a result, she looks forward to spending the next four years, working with you to have:
- safer communities
- more timely and responsive city departments
- welcoming neighborhoods
- eco-friendly improvements to our communities, and
- supportive environments for small businesses
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND:
Natalyn is a graduate of:
- the Atlanta Public Schools system, High School Diploma
- East Atlanta High School
- Georgia Southwestern University, Bachelor of Arts in Psychology
- Georgia State University, Master in Public Administration, and
- the University of Georgia, Juris Doctorate of Law
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:
Prior to Natalyn's election in 2001, she founded the East Atlanta Business Association, and served three consecutive terms as its president. Under her leadership, the East Atlanta Village has grown to become a distinctive commercial node, attracting a diverse and eclectic mix of businesses providing retail, entertainment, food, and a variety of services.
Natalyn's diverse professional background includes work as a/n:
- educational evaluator with the Georgia Department of Education
- educational activist and Corporate Secretary for APPLE Corps, Inc.
- founder of OASIS: Organized Association of Schools in Southeast Atlanta- a parent sponsored public school advocacy group
- attorney at the law firm of Hassan & Reed in Minneapolis, Minnesota
- Crim Cluster Coordinator for the Atlanta Project- her service area included the communities of East Atlanta, Edgewood,
