Nathan Miller

Teacher, Musician, and Student in Kingston, Ontario, Canada

I attended Wilfrid Laurier University and earned my B.Mus. in Music Education and Performance between 2010 - 2015. I've since come to Queen's and am currently finishing up my B.Ed degree with teachables in Music and Math, with a focus on At-Risk Youth. My practicum experience has vastly opened the way I present to youth, teach to various classes, create inclusive, fun, and intreguing lessons, and the level of questions that I ask my students.

I believe that the classroom is a place where all students should feel welcomed, safe, and engaged for their needs. Students should also be free to explore their ideas where they create their own higher-level questioning and take time to discover for themselves.

During this years practicum blocks, I invested time in helping to run lunch-time intramurals, as well as jam-sessions with students where we played a variety of songs that interested them. We included using several means that would allow all students to be involved, even those with no music experience.

Students should know that I am a high-energy teacher and I am dedicated to the students success. I am available for help when they need it and I will be using various means for students to stay up-to-date with lessons and homework they miss. I am willing to work with students to determine what works best for them and differentiate my practices so that everyone will benefit in the end.
