I’m Nathan Kelley and I’m an Eagle Scout. Second to everything my father has taught me, becoming an Eagle Scout has had the biggest impact on my life to this day. To become an Eagle Scout, you must show and perfect many qualities of leadership and earn many merit badges. Many of the merit badges I have earned have continued to have a lasting effect on my life.
Among the many merit badges, I earned, three have stuck with me since I have stopped scouting. Personal Fitness, Personal Management, and Emergency Preparedness have affected me the most. Personal Fitness taught me how to take train my body both mentally and physically. Personal Management taught me how to manage on a tight budget and still save for the future. Personal Management prepared me to be a broke college student!
Emergency Preparedness, by far, has had the biggest impact on my life after scouting. After college, I would like to be a firefighter just like my father and grandfather. E-Prep taught me the essentials in emergency first aid and first responding. While taking the merit badge, I knew then, I wanted to be in the medical field. At the same time, I had grown up around the Fire Department, and I fell in love with the atmosphere and figured I would enjoy being a first responder.
