Nathan Lowe
Realtor, Licensed Sailing Captain, and Professional Finish Carpenter in Bellingham, Washington
I chose Bellingham to attend college at in 1985 because I saw in it great potential as my future home. It has so many of the things I love: the water, mountains, the desert, and proximity to two large cities...without the traffic, and also of course it's proximity to the N. Cascades Highway, the magnificently gateway that accesses so much more of our great state. Bellingham has not failed to be a wonderful place to live. I have been a career entrepreneur here, my first business started before I was even out of Western Washington University, it was a nightclub in Fairhaven called Speedy O' Tubbs' (1988-1996). A live music venue that is reputed to have been one of the best clubs on the West coast, we saw bands ranging from A Flock Of Seagulls and The Tubes, to Canned Heat and The Paladins, to Wide Spread Panic, Eek-A-Mouse, Sublime and Nirvana, they all played there, among hundreds more, so many good times... After Speedys, I trained myself to be a sailing instructor and a yacht broker, working at San Juan Sailing for 5 years before I began my own ASA school; teaching couples on week long trips in the San Juan Islands and cooking up gourmet food, served in the San Juan's fabulous anchorages! In order to support myself during sailing's off season, I also became a finish carpenter, and to this day I enjoy designing and building custom built-ins, cabinets, kitchens, bookcases, fire place mantles, desks, etc. But then, the recession came, and changed everything, no one was spending money on sailing lessons, or building kitchens, so I started a simple restaurant downtown called Man Pies, a savory pie shop. I grew Man Pies, the only restaurant to win all three categories in the Bite of Bellingham simultaneously, and sold it in 2013, to pursue a career in real estate. I work with eXp, a locally founded real estate brokerage that is an agent owned, cloud based, brokerage. We are growing faster than any other real estate brokerage in America, and I believe eXp Realty is the future of real estate. As a real estate professional, I've taken my knowledge of carpentry, homes, people, customer satisfaction, and Bellingham, and melded them into a potent and fulfilling career. I chose to purchase a home in the Birchwood neighborhood, solidifying my commitment to this community, because I could see the direction of Bellingham's growth as positive. If I can help you find your place here too, then we will all be better off. Cheers to you, my neighbors, and my city!
