Lorrie is married to a caring & supportive husband, with whom she has two teenage sons. She has a daughter & a son from her first marriage, as well as the four sweet grandchildren that they have blessed her with. Lorrie's youngest son, Nathan, was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorders ten years ago. Lorrie created their Family & Friends Team "Nathan's Voice", and then she started volunteering at her son's elementary school as often as she possibly could. She was determined to integrate herself into his daily educational environment by making herself available as a substitute teacher. Lorrie made it her goal to get to know the teachers & students at his school while she raised the awareness of everyone around her! She has four years experience working as a substitute teacher between her local elementary, middle school and high school, as well as two years working as a 1:1 Assistant in the self-contained SpEd classroom. After she temporarily filled in as a Parent Liaison in the front office at her local middle school for almost a year, Lorrie was thrilled to be back in the same self-contained SpEd classroom where she was able to resume working as a Teacher Assistant. Lorrie started her amateur autism resource blog, Nathan's Voice, almost eight years ago to document her son's progress (challenges & successes) for him to be able to look back at his journey, and then over time it became a way to encourage other families that they are not alone in their journey. She volunteered as the Easter Seals Oklahoma Sibshop Coordinator for the Fall 2013 workshops, and served as the full-time volunteer leader & coordinator of the AutismOKC.org parent support group from 2012-2015. After taking approximately 25 years off to raise her children, Lorrie returned to college to complete her A.A in Psychology. While she worked to finish her degree, she was inducted as a member of the National Honor Society Psi Beta and the International Honor Society Phi Theta Kappa. Lorrie is currently attending classes as a full-time student at the University of Central Oklahoma to complete her B.A. in Psychology.
