I am currently working on a temporary appointment with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, and am overseeing the implementation of existing transparency arrangements for non-Annex I Parties under the convention. I am supporting non-Annex I Parties in their submissions of national communications (NC) and biennial update reports (BUR); constituted bodies under the Convention in preparing guidelines; Parties under various negotiating platforms; and am providing substantive inputs to technical experts and Parties on relevant issues. I also supported the first ever Facilitative Sharing of Views, the platform for both Annex I and non-Annex I Parties to share knowledge and exchange lessons learnt. I am the focal point of contact for the Consultative Group of Experts on National Communications from Parties not included in Annex I to the Convention (CGE) training programme for team of technical experts undertaking technical analysis of BURs submitted by non‑Annex I Parties. I am at a vantage point in understanding how different Parties are using the reporting requirements, including NCs, BURs, NAMAs and INDCs/NDCs, and their provisions to frame their institutional arrangements, identify capacity‑building needs as well as the key mitigation actions and adaptation plans and report on these along with their greenhouse gas inventories.
I have sustained my passion for climate change, its impacts and related issues and have endeavoured to steer my work and education to equip me with perspectives from both developing and developed worlds. I worked in developing nations on GHG mitigation and adaptation projects that reinforced the urgent need to address climate change at local levels. I was fortunate to gain a thorough understanding of several mitigation technologies, their financing patterns, national and international policies dictating their feasibilities, as well as practical, technological and socio-econo-political barriers to their implementation.
To gain first-hand knowledge on how the developed world was tackling the same issues I studied sustainability and its practical applications at University of Leeds. For my dissertation I prepared a comprehensive report on incorporating different climate change scenarios in future baselines for planning projects being implemented in United Kingdom that demonstrated the foresight developed world programs were incorporating to tackle the impacts. I reviewed published literature, Government and public
