I'm also a freshly retired Canadian Air force helicopter pilot.
In Jan 2013, I was diagnosed with cancer which brought my military flying career to an abrupt end. I spent the next three years in and out of a cancer treatment center, under going radiation and having multiple blood tests run every six weeks or so.
It was during this time I decided to buy a small piece of land (3.5 acres) and build my family an off grid cabin to escape the hustle and bustle of everything going on around us. Just a quiet place to get away from it all and NOT have to pay a single bill.
This is also when I discovered that other people were interested interested in building cabins and/or goign off grid. I began a blog sharing the complete step-by-step build process of our cabin and every day more and more people got interested.
Soon thousands of people were following the build. Months later and nearly 130K people are now following our adventure here...
