I'm a retired Canadian Air Force helicopter pilot turned off-grid builder, blogger, and solarpreneur.

In January 2012, a cancer diagnosis abruptly ended my flying career. The next three years were filled with surgeries, radiation treatments, and frequent hospital visits—leaving me determined to reclaim my freedom and purpose.

During recovery, my wife Mireille, daughter Clara, and I bought a small 3.5-acre property near Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. What started as a quiet camping escape to get away from the city, treatments, and the reminders of a grounded life evolved into our fully off-grid solar-powered cabin—a true family project with my dad's help on design and build.

As I shared the step-by-step journey on Facebook, interest exploded. Friends suggested starting a blog, and The Off Grid Cabin was born. Today, it has inspired millions of visitors worldwide to explore self-reliant, sustainable living.
