Navanita Gogoi

Navanita Gogoi is a famous Assamese Literateur who has written many Assamese books winning several honours. In 2001, she won the famous Munin Borkotoky Award for her evergreen book "Saanh Poohorot Akole".

Born in 5th January 1966 ( Official 1st January 1967 ) in Jhanji in Sivsagar, Navanita is the daughter of Sri Nabin Gogoi who is a retired lecturer in JB College, Jorhat and Mayjaan Gogoi who was the principal of Jhanji High School.

It is said that her parents too were highly literated. Navanita did her schooling in Oil India HS School in Duliajan upto 10th. Navanita Gogoi is a very close relative to the famous historian Dr. Dambaru Nath . Navanita was married to Mr. Mridul Baruah who was a lecturer in JDSG college, Bokakhat and also a famous poet. Sadly enough Mr.Baruah passed away on 7th Of November 2013. Many a people says that the couple got separated when there daughter was a month old baby. The reason is not known though. After writing a number of successful stories, Navanita Gogoi stopped writing any more books and many a people mourn for it. Her stories had been added in many famous collections. Very recently, her story "Apadartha" (English: Worthless) was translated by Ranjita Biswas and was published in Harper Collins Publications, As The River Flows.
