I am a third year PhD student at the College of Computing and Informatics at Drexel (member of the iSchools) working under Dr. Andrea Forte. I hold a B.Sc. in theoretical computer science, and a M.Sc. in enterprise systems. Having shifted to information studies in September 2012, I now feel like this is exactly where I want to be.
My areas of interest primarily lie within the computer supported cooperative work (CSCW) and social computing, human factors in computing systems, and everyday life information/new media behavior. My research draws on both qualitative and quantitative methods.
I am extremely curious about how people use social technologies to express and regulate their emotions (particularly those with negative valence) and different facets of their identities (often times conflicting or socially stigmatized), how they perceive and manage their audience, and how they go about self-disclosure especially in times of personal crisis or distress. I am interested to investigate the various underlying reasons and mechanisms behind these behaviors, the role of technological affordances, and how we could design social computing systems that encourage support seeking and giving among diverse populations.
Some of the other topics I am interested in include: Transnational social technology use when there is considerable difference in cultural norms of the old and new society, cross-cultural differences in social technology use, privacy, photo-sharing, and sharing economy.
