Naomie Cherine

Naomie Cherine

My name is Naomie Michel Cherine I am 24 years old, and I was born in the big apple also known as New York City. I spent most of my life in Brooklyn, which is one of the five boroughs of New York City. My parents are Michael and Milouse Cherine; they have been married for twenty-eight years. They are originally from Haiti. My father is from Port au Prince, Haiti and my mother is from Acul du Nord, Haiti. My parents lived most of their lives in Haiti before coming to America. They moved to America to have a better life and to also prepare a better life for myself and my six siblings. Growing up, I lived in the urban part of Brooklyn New York. The schools I attended in Brooklyn, New York from elementary to middle school were PS.92, Hebron Bilingual French Seventh Day Adventist School, and MS.2. After September 11, 2001, I moved to Georgia where I furthered my education in Marietta Middle School, then later moved on to Marietta High School. Leaving New York and moving to Georgia was the toughest year in my life. I did not adapt well to the life styles in Georgia. I was so used to having noise in the streets and a fast moving life, then had to live to a slow paced atmosphere. I didn’t know how to adjust to the language culture and traditions in Georgia. Later on, at the age of sixteen I dropped out of school. I dealt with several of issues with failing, and feeling “special”. I was scared of how my friends and family would view me. I had to find a solution to this problem. My family and I moved back to Long Island New York, in 2007. I searched for GED schools so that I can get my High School Diploma because I decided I am not going to give up. Although people, including family members, have said I was never going to make it. I had to push myself. At the same time the Lord, my mother, and father never gave up on me. I later got my high school diploma in 2008; I continued my education in Atlantic Union College for three. When the School shut down in 2010, I was devastated I pray and the lord let me to go to Southwestern Adventist University. I am now a junior majoring in Psychology soon to earn my BS in Psychology.
