Nehtaur UttarPradesh

Nehtaur or Nihtaur is an ancient town in Bijnor district in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. Famous for its cultural and educational history

Nehtaur is the word that comes from " naya thaur" meaning a new place. It was named by Tyagi's who came from Ranthambore after fighting mughal rulers many years ago.

Nehtaur is known for the high status of Tyagi residing there and was one of the Riyasats ( Royal Estates ) of Tyagi's. Nehtaur, Ratangarh and Seohara were the three Tyagi Riyasats in Bijnor. Some Tyagis were associated with the Parihar empire that arose in northern India in the 6th century and the Rathores of Marwar who succeeded it (after the last Parihar ruler, Nahar Rao Parihar, of Mandore, Marwar). These Tyagis were ministers and gurus to these kingdoms and often carried the titles of Rathore or Rao. These Taga Rathores are mentioned in the Prithviraj Raso of Chand Bardai (1149-1200 CE).The prime ministers of Ajmer state (Prithvi Raj Chauhan)were Tagas who settled in Nehtaur, district Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh.

When India was under the British Administration that time only Nehtaur was single town which had its own administration called "BARA TOPI SARKAR" 12 prominent and educated personalities ran their own Government in Nehtour. It's a proud for us as well as for the nation; Nehtaur had independent administration during the British period..
